Interior design is the process of planning and controlling how our indoor spaces - such as a house or office suites - are designed, decorated and maintained. It includes the furniture, fixtures and decorative objects that we rely on to make everyday living comfortable. In addition to considering aesthetic factors such as color harmony, balance and scale, the interior designer must also think about environmental factors like current building codes that affect how well people can see in rooms (known as sightlines) or how clutter-free a room will be because it's better for air quality to have everything off of floors. Maintaining architectural integrity because window installation should complement wood floors installed years ago so they can't dictate removal.

The primary job of an interior designer is to create a space that reflects the client's needs and wants as well as their personality. It's about creating an environment for the people who will live in it every day. The possibilities are endless and so, too, is the opportunities for creativity. A career in interior design offers many long-term professional benefits such as stability and growth potential not found in other professions.
