Interior designers are able to combine architectural skills along with artistic sensibility in order to create homes that reflect who you are while providing a unique experience for visitors. For many people today, this is what makes their chosen occupation so special--reclaiming our spaces in order for them to serve our needs more effectively on a day-to-day basis.

If one is not mesmerized by how people live, the composition of materials that they use, and the result on how they feel in their space--then what else would there be to do? To design is to create something. Something meaningful. That can offer peace, inspire creativity or engender community. To design spaces gives us opportunities to build memories with those we love. A nourishing environment for growth and opportunity where each person can find communion with themselves. To create a place where families grow up together, evolve separately and return home again as ships passing in the night.

Interior designers can choose to work for themselves or as employees of larger firms. Freelance practitioners often charge a hourly rate and either find new clients on their own or use advertising methods to generate business. Working for a firm is attractive because they usually offer more stability and amenities, but pay rates might be lower. Part-time jobs are also common in this sector, which may allow individuals to earn supplementary income while still finding time for other pursuits.
