Licensing provides the assurance that an individual is qualified to represent himself or herself as a professional in their field. To become fully licensed, one must:. - Have a master's degree and four years of experience in the industry, and be sponsored by another state license holder in good standing with ORNHA (Oregon Association of Residential and Hospitality Architects), take rigorous written tests administered by ORACAC (Oregon Architectural Council Appraisal Commission) and the INDECO Board]], pass an oral examination, take continuing education courses for license renewal every two years. OSB has much more information on this topic.

A design professional (for example, an interior designer) is required to become licensed if they want to bid on or work with local and state governments. According to the American Institute of Architects (AIA), "Only those individuals who are associated with a professional corporation may engage in any business as such as the name used thereupon shall be followed by the words 'professional corporation' or 'PC.'". State Boards for architects and landscape architecture assess applications from those who would like to acquire licensure, and issue it upon approval; they also assess examination applications from those who already have licensing elsewhere. A Design Professional must be listed under their respective trade group's designation.

Each US state has its own rules, so you'd need to contact the state's regulatory agency that oversees these matters. If you want to be sure that your licensee is compliant with your locality (and earn some happy stamps), check out this list of NAR members, which includes the ones who are licensed specifically for interior design. Don't forget that it may require more than one license type too - like both an architect and a general contractor's licenses - depending on what kind of projects they're taking on. (But if it doesn't call out specific responsibilities in the licensing, make sure to follow up before hiring someone.

They are not healthcare professionals. Interior designers are, more or less, people who have a passion for the arts of interior design and some background in this field. They are not trained as medical doctors or nurses, but interior designers do provide an important service by making their client's homes more attractive and livable. This means better mental health for the people who live there due to lower levels of stress and better physical health because they decrease incidents of infection among occupants through proper construction techniques. Interior designers also need training in ergonomics to increase accessibility for people with disabilities - this is vitally important since they spend so much time at home!

One of the things that makes interior design different from other forms of designing is that it can be inherently dangerous. Interior designers are tasked with working with people's lives and health when they plan their designs so there are much stricter guidelines in place for interior design licenses. Most states require an applicant to have at least 60 semester hours in mandatory courses, 30 hours' worth of mentoring, 3 years' work experience in the field, and pass a comprehensive exam. It may also take time to study up on all applicable ordinances in your municipality or county before you begin work because many municipalities require special licensing if you'll be doing anything electrical or structural work.

An interior designer is not strictly limited to designing the inside of a building. Interior designers may be involved in design for private residencies (including furniture, textiles, window treatment), commercial offices or hotels. Interior designers are very similar to an architect in their training and education though are more often employed by non-profit enterprises because they are qualified to work at all scales of the profession. For these reasons becoming licensed should be considered if you want to work as an architect or interior designer because it opens many opportunities that being unlicensed may have closed off.
