To become a landscape designer, you'll need to get an education in landscape design. Degrees that could qualify for this vary by state. Interior design is only required if the environment designer works inside or alongside the field of landscape design.
Some examples of degrees are are Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science or Natural Resources Management, and Horticulture Sciences, among others. The interior design degree has a broader range of applications than just a specific field and would be highly beneficial as well!

Landscape design is a specialized profession with few paths to degree attainment:
- Bachelor's and master's degrees in landscape architecture, which are most commonly offered through accredited colleges of architecture. (This will sound pompous) Working as a landscape designer requires skills from the fields of art, science, and engineering. Your career path as an architect would come only after achieving a bachelor's degree in Architecture; but you should be prepared for long periods of schooling that span up to ten years
- Bachelor's degrees in Interior Design (e.g., Apprenticeship)(this will also sound pompous) This field focuses on designing homes and public spaces such as offices and schools using colors, patterns, textures, shapes and forms;

There are many landscape design degrees. A Master's degree in Horticulture is usually the minimum requirement for American professional landscape designers. They may have a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree as well, and that depends on your personal strengths and goals but typically the hours devoted to taking horticultural classes cannot be over ten hours per semester.

Subjects needed for a degree in interior design include such as math, graphic media, English, and others.
A landscape designer usually needs the skills of an architect or landscape architect to create plans for gardens and landscaping; those who are training for these professions will need to spend time studying both subjects. Also required is knowledge of environmental sustainability by way of using methods that incorporate organic materials into construction and maintenance while sustaining the ecosystem's balance with nature. You'll be responsible for the design element as well as specifications on planting, irrigation systems, supplies- you name it.
