No, not all interior designers are architects. When one needs their home or town redesigned, an architect may be the right person for the job. But if someone is looking to give their house a spruce up by adding some colors and photos -- an interior designer might do. This depends on what your future goals are for your property space, other than simply maintenance or decoration (though these can be achieved through professional interior decoration). An architect has the qualifications required for taking on projects that entail structural design changes. Interior Designers take care of minor redecorating tasks like selecting paint colors, sourcing furniture and organizing the placement of fittings within a room to create an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere.

It may depend on what country you're in, but it is certainly possible that interior designers are called architects. Interior design is not something that is protected or regulated by law in some countries, so they may be more of an artist than someone who studies architecture. When an architect designs the inside of a building, this may fall under interior designer duties. However, if all you do is design outside of buildings (such as paving brick paths), then no.the terms are overlapping but not synonymous. To illustrate further: there are furniture designers and sculptors who can integrate their skills into designing interiors whereas an architect would never do this based on the definitions I was able to find online while doing my research for this answer.

The "architect" is the individual who designs and plans the architecture. Interior designers often collaborate with this architect to make it come to life, and as such they should be considered design architects themselves. From wikipedia: "Architecture is both a profession and an academic discipline." Academics are of course free to comment on the world of interior design, but professional architects are not so free. This question cannot meaningfully be answered without first defining what is meant by "interior designer". A great place to start would be looking at architectural firms that have departments for interiors versus those do not--whose opinion on this more likely reflects what you're after?

Interior designers are not architects, but they have much in common with them. Similar to how an architect is responsible for three-dimensional space before construction, the interior designer must take into account multiple variables including cost, color scheme and design needs. Essentially what sets interior designers apart from architects is that their main job is about designing the "environment" or "result." This includes creating the two dimensional sketches of professional visualizations that clients can later be shown to create their business idea. On the other hand, architectural work involves building fields like structural engineering and civil engineering (construction). Architecture has a stronger emphasis on design skills than decorative arts which distinguishes it from Interior Design.

No, interior designers and architects do two completely different things. Designers plan out what clients will live with on a day-to-day basis, while architects design the overall structure of buildings. The people whose work interior designers do depend on are called architects. This person's job is to design large structures such as churches and office buildings. Architects rely heavily on the input of an Interior Designer or Home Stager because they need someone who knows how to balance the questions of form and function in designing spaces that will be used by humans every day. Keep in mind that both jobs require some very specific skillsets, just not the same ones - so before you head off for your next interview remember to know your stuff!
