Designing the home screen of an operating system can be thought of as setting up a set of defaults that shape the experience users will have. Important is to think about how you want your user's experience with your OS to feel, across many screens and what are already there. What are some reasons people switch operating systems? What do we need from an OS? What does it stand for? How should it look and behave out-of-the-box? How should I handle updates and keeping my userbase unified across platforms/devices? You also want others in the organization to care and provide them with tools to help design appropriate UI.

The following are some of the most notable new additions. The most prominent new design technique in iOS 13 is the introduction of dynamic, gestural navigation that makes navigating your Home screen simpler and more intuitive than ever before. Combined with other features like Reveal Gestures and Quick Actions, it's never been easier to get where you need to go-without having to touch a single app icon. Home Screen IOS 14 introduces a brand-new method for accessing Recent Apps: by invoking Multitasking Gestures from any app or multitasking screen on your device (including Slide Over and Split View).

Many designers have adopted a radial design wherein the icons are arranged in a circle, which is fitting considering how much an apple logo resembles a sun. Another trend is using gradient backgrounds to harmonize with a user's wallpaper. It's best practice to configure the icons into two opposite groups that compliment the circular shape of your screen, e.g., north and south or east and west. If you must use more than two groups of icons, make sure to clearly provide instructions for distinguishing between them as this can be difficult for people who may not know what they're seeing at first glance.

How to design home screen on iOS 14? It changes from year-to-year, but the general guidelines are the same. Contain icons for primary apps that your user would have on their homescreen, and then secondary apps they might have. Avoid having too many icons in a row - this overcrowds the visual impact and makes it difficult to find anything (people tend to scan rows of icons). Hyperlink or connect pages with arrows or lines to make it easy for users to find new content. Draw attention with visuals like an arrow flying away from an icon - something out of place can attract attention even if it's not clickable (very good for search results).

Home design determines the visual branding of an app and its position on the Home screen. It's important to note that not all screens can be updated to support custom designs, as Apple has developed a system whereby the platform only updates the necessary portion of UI elements. The location and size of those updated UI elements change depending on various design factors such as `Content area width adjustment' and `Text color scaling factor'. This makes it so developers designing custom wallpaper cannot update every possible iOS14 feature, but they still have access to enough variables through which they can control much of their app's appearance and positioning within iOS14.
