The easiest way to become an interior designer is through a four-year degree program in design. Although this process requires four years of school and will cost around $100,000, most students find that it is worth the money in the long run.
Besides having a four-year degree program, there are also other paths that one can take in order to become an interior designer without going through such a rigorous education process; designing homes independently as well as taking classes at trade schools or by working with someone who has more experience.
As for where one should study, it all depends on what city they live near and what type of curriculum they want to study at.

A good place to study Interior Design is at Parson's New School of Design. NY Institute of Technology also offers an undergraduate degree in Interior Design. At these institutions, students have the opportunity to take courses in architecture and other subjects like Fashion, Home Furnishings, and Textiles. In general, graduates should leave school knowing how to use computer design programs like AutoCAD for architectural drawings and Photoshop for interior renderings with a broad understanding of materials in construction such as wood, cavity walls or decorative plaster molding along with be canning tile or carpets.
During their last two years every student internes at a design firm so that the student knows what it's really like to work in the field before graduation day.

If you google "interior designer schools" you will be directed to a list from which you can choose.
Some of these websites having information on: program requirements, tuition, faculty members as well as alumni locations where they currently work or are in the works of opening up their own studio.
Note- curriculum may vary from college to college but some common subjects include architecture, history, and art history in meaningfully considering one's design decisions. Keep this in mind when researching your future career choice! Some popular schools seem to offer flexibility with coursework related to majors of interest such as business or fashion marketing should it change the goal post for what is desired for a future income stream.

It's not an easy question to answer, but online resources and local universities are the best places to start. Purdue University for example is one of the oldest interior design schools in the whole USA.

There's not one school consistently recognized as the best--you'll find everything from expensive private universities to community colleges. The best thing you can do is explore the subject in depth before registering.
