The easiest way to avoid this is to simplify your model as much as possible. Try breaking your model down into smaller pieces, and use groups and components to keep everything organized. You can also try disabling the textures and shadows in the View > Render menu. If you're still having problems, you can try lowering the resolution of your model in the File > Preferences > Modeling panel.
