Yes, SketchUp is still free. The company that makes it, Trimble, continues to keep the software free for personal use. SketchUp comes with no price tag and is user-friendly enough for all skill levels of the 3D modeling community - from elementary school kids learning how to make Lego models to most professional construction companies looking for a quick way to visualize their next project. The downside of using SketchUp is that it can't export your models anywhere else (without plugins). So you won't be able to take your model outside of the program and into another 3D media player such as Google Earth or Microsoft Virtual Earth.

SketchUp is still free to use with some limitations. So, now you can model buildings in your backyard but there are limitations to what you can share. One limitation is that you need a paid license if the things made with Sketchup are created over two meters in height or length or taller than three meters long. A second limitation is that sketch people cannot export 3D data into other formats for video games, industrial design work, architectural presentations, etcetera without purchase of the paid Pro version.

SketchUp is a free 3D modeling software and, as such, there is no cost to download and use it. However you may want to consider the Professional version because of the numerous features it provides. If you're just doing sketches for yourself or your class assignments then the free version would be sufficient. If you're planning on working with an architect or engineer as they plan out their next dream building then they'll need more than what Mockup offers, that's where using SketchUP Pro comes in handy!
