It pays better than almost any other job in America. Seriously.

The median annual wage for an interior designer is $49,800 and the top 10% of wage earners make over $100,000 a year. Not bad! In addtion to those salaries on their own just being high enough to justify adding it to your list of potential jobs, if you think about some other benefits:
-very rarely needs breaks or time off
-very flexible hours -work from home opportunities
-leadership in running events all day every day (think weddings, parties) without even needing a large network or marketing budget (pure word of mouth ends up working wonders) -endless networking opportunities with other business owners

It's a profession that does pay well, but you have to make sure the amount of work you do is worth the money.
There are many responsibilities before designers can start billing their clients. They need to design space, communicate with the client and contractor, execute design decisions, oversee construction process, evaluate completed project and potential risks of implementing any changes that might arise during construction or post-construction phases.

Yes. A qualified interior designer will make an average of $25/hour .
A qualified, experienced and well-connected interior designer with a strong portfolio, plenty of experience and good industry contacts should expect to earn in the region of $50k per year before tax on an annual salary basis.
Salaries for an individual starting out in this business are likely to be closer to $30k per year before tax - which is still a very good wage for someone with no training or qualifications at all.

The cost of training ourselves can be anywhere from 0% (you're self-taught) to 100% (we pay you to do it). Sources vary on how much more experience you need for each percentage point increase

The Payscale website indicates that while the pay varies depending on which branch of design one specializes in, the expected ranges for designers are between $40k and $145k yearly. In reality as well, these numbers can differ significantly depending on where you live, what industry you work in (private sector or public), and what kind of experience you have.

Being an interior designer pays well if you are in certain niches of the industry.
Generally, some of the most profitable niches in this field are those that work with larger real estate and household investment clients. Well-known designers such as Michael Graves, may earn up to $12 million USD a year while working on commissions and other projects.
