Choosing a college major in interior design can be an excellent way to turn your passion for design into a career. Interior design focuses on how interior spaces are used and maintained. An Interior Design Major teaches you about the methods of designing and organizing spaces, as well as how these ideas work with the various structures and purposes of individual architectural projects. Graduates from this discipline find opportunities in numerous industry sectors, such as furniture or lighting design, residential development firms, hotels or schools. This course will help you explore new ways of using color through digital environments; learn to create logotypes by utilizing typefaces; compose vector illustrations using programing languages for animation.

It isn't enough to just sketch an idea or choose colors. You'll need drawing skills, an understanding of ratios and proportions, a grounding in the principles of best practices in interior design such as consistency of scale, color clarity and contrast, proximity and repetition. Don't worry though even if your background is in architecture or art or industrial design, you can still be an effective interior designer. Here are some colleges that offer this course. One excellent choice for students looking for an intense program is the Interior Design Bachelor's Degree Program at the Maryland University College of Art (MUMArts). This program trains you with all aspects necessary to become a successful professional - from focusing on hospitality training to how light reflects off spaces.

If you're looking for courses that teach interior design on a college level, I recommend either
1) Interior Design at the University of Oregon - Eugene
2) Interior Design Program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
In both cases, you'll be learning how to use principles and techniques in office or building construction and planning as well as applying these knowledge to residential buildings. You'll also explore materials and specifications for home availability and quality, then use those findings to produce design projects or spec sheets based on your own set of user requirements.
