An interior design degree prepares you to merge both art and science in a profession that transforms spaces into inviting, inspirational homes. Interior design programs emphasize visual communication skills, space planning, color theory, and the increasing fields of sustainable design.
The ability to see things through someone else's eyes is critical for an engaging design process as well as for customer satisfaction at the end of it. Designers need empathy coupled with innovation because no two people will have exactly the same needs or desires even if they need a comparably sized living room. For this reason school curriculums are full of varied studios that teach students how to think creatively while also teaching them about efficient process building from beginning to end so their designs are not only attractive but affordable too.

An interior designer is a professional person who deals with the layout, room size and proportion, designing furniture layouts to make their design functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. They may work together with engineers and architects on a variety of projects including showrooms for products such as furniture or bathware; hotels or public venues like museums, malls, airports, restaurants; office buildings; even individual residences.
In many cases they will do "interior designing" which includes not just the look of walls but also light fixtures, flooring patterns etc. Sometimes they might do "exterior design" which includes understanding zoning ordinances and approvals from municipal building inspectors in order to make sure that whatever is proposed meets all code requirements.

An interior designer's job is a mixture of art and knowledge, since they're required to have artistic talent as well as knowledge about construction.
Their design process starts by setting up priorities and goals for your home. Once these are established, the designer will help brainstorm creative solutions for your project and take measurements of your space to determine what materials are needed. The final step in the process is actually putting their plan into motion (sometimes with the client or homeowner) by finding cost estimates for materials as well as assembling a team including contractors for labor, carpenters, electricians and more.

Interior design is the process of planning and designing the layout of a building or room. It is typically done for either practical reasons, such as increasing Square Footage, making a space more usable, etc., or to make it aesthetically pleasing.
Working with interior designers will help you clarify your needs and thoughts about what you want in your house-and they can also use those criteria to encourage you to fill in other details that may have been glossed over during an earlier date. They also provide guidelines on color schemes and layouts that'll suit different styles of living (such as families with young children vs retirees).

An interior design degree is a two or four-year undergraduate degree in the arts and sciences that prepares designers to plan, select, and apply color, furnishings, space planning and other principles of design within the built environment. A graduate degree may be required for some positions in this profession. For those who are self-employed or in managerial positions, an MBA will typically suffice. Entry level designers often start with internships during their senior year where they are assigned tasks such as proofreading contracts & management of vendors (both new & existing).
There are no specific prerequisites for entry into the field but it's common knowledge that having a good grasp on spatial relationships is necessary both as a designer and as an employee.
