If you are looking for a major that will leave more doors open for you in the future, majoring in interior design is ideal.
It is not as easy to get into another field with a degree like interior design because your studies wouldn't have been specific enough. Interior design majors are typically well-versed in psychological and spatial concepts related to space layout and human perception of space which are trademarks of interior designers. Whether it be global business or international development, there may come a time where this type of knowledge will help serve your needs better than other types of degrees.

There are several factors to consider, including your interests, creativity, personality and career goals. It is a relatively common degree because it entails flexibility in career paths.
But my advice would be to explore other majors before settling on this one as an undergraduate course of study. There are many different areas you could pursue that can lead to the same goal. Interior Design isn't for everyone. Look at it like another language- a prerequisite for entry level work in the field but not enough if you want to reach the top position within that field.

You should major in interior design if you have a strong penchant for designing, an eye for detail, or the organizational skills to keep meticulous records. If you're unsure whether these are qualities you possess, don't feel too pressured to decide so early on. Pursuing a variety of different interests while in school can help you better identify your passions and what direction they take by exposing your to new areas of interest.

Yes, interior design is a very good major. Interior designers are skilled at focusing on the needs of others in order to create their vision for people's home. Interior designers work with architects and contractors to create functional and beautiful spaces that function more effectively than ever before. They consider every detail from climate control to layout. The ability needed at these two points could be considered less specialized since they do not require a lot of emphasis on either field; instead an interior designer has both skillsets, which allows them greater creativity because they can combine what really needs to be done together as easily as possible. Lastly, the individual must have strong communication skills because often times they will work closely with clients throughout the process.

Depending on which industry you're interested in, the question may seem to come up often. If you're talking about an interior design degree for a career as an interior designer, we suggest getting as much education in English or Design before diving into this field. If you're planning on just getting a bachelor's degree and then jumping into another major (maybe moving from an arts-oriented career like painting to one more technically oriented) there are many factors at play and it's best to talk with someone who has more knowledge of your particular options.

Here's a quick test to see if you're the "right fit" for becoming an interior design major. Can you identify the following common materials in this picture?
    - Plywood paneling
    - Aluminum ceiling and roof with pine accents

If the answer is yes, then your background does point towards interior design. Interior design is more than just decorating space; it's also about creating spaces that will be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. A degree in interior design can prepare you for a career as a designer or contractor, which means there'll always be plenty of opportunities out there. If not, don't worry too much: not all jobs require plans!
