If you want to design a home that matches your personal style, then yes. If you want someone else to do all the work for you, including shopping for furniture, fabric, and color schemes then no. A professional interior decorator is a person who has taken the time and training (and money) to better understand what materials compliment one another and will help every aspect of your home come together with a sense of rhythm and spaciousness (not just look pretty). An interior designer's job encompasses everything from designing room space flow to picking out furniture pieces. It's worth noting that some designers specialize in certain things.

Yes, use an interior decorator. An interior decorator will help you to maximize the usage of your space in a more effective manner and provide you with both design and style tips. Interior designers are generally hospitality or residential interior designers who have additional training beyond what is typically required for their industry. They can provide assistance when it comes to choosing furniture, artwork, fabrics among other aspects of the final product (your home). For example, there may be several types of curtains that would work well with your particular living room but without the professional advice from an interior designer it could take weeks before you find one that matches all your requirements.

It depends on your needs. An interior designer can help you with the following tasks:
-Analyzing spaces, building furniture and room dividers, deciding finishes or fabrics that fit your style and needs
    - Finding cheap custom furniture stores or vintage items to give that homey feel
    - Tending to your indoor plants
    - Hanging beautiful paintings and mirrors
    - Bringing additional light into darker rooms, using natural sunlight where possible
    - Gathering decorative objects like vases for scattered herbs in the kitchen or flowers throughout
    - Providing a space for guests (extra beds, couches)

Interior decorators can be very helpful, usually in the beginning stages of design. They have a lot of know-how that could save you time and money when it comes to shopping, design or layout. In the end though, what's more important is the emotional appeal of your home to you. They have experience in the field so they can save you time and money which is important.

Interior decorators are not an absolute necessity and they have many limitations. Though many people turn to them when making the decision on what color scheme to use or how to place pictures, interior decorators are usually hands off once those initial decisions are made.
Homeowners often find themselves immediately regretting their decision after hiring a decorator because of the following reasons:
    1) Interior Designers have no understanding of buyer psychology 2) They tend to be lackluster and too expensive 3) 98% fail structural design which is the most important requirement in designing a home.
Four components make up design - form, space, structure, & function
