A style of interior design that is based in modern or contemporary architecture and features less clutter. It incorporates clean, simple lines with a limited amount of furniture, functional materials that are easy to care for as well as durable textile choices and an inviting, but not overstimulating color palette. Urban modern design can vary depending on the property and client's needs by mixing brick walls with industrial-type accents, or through open floor layouts incorporating natural materials like wood floors and stone backsplashes. Function, durability, simplicity and value are key principles which are considered when designing any space according to this style. In general, urban modern strives to create spaces that feel both clean and elegant without sacrificing functionality.

Urban modern interior design is the use of clean lines, large windows, and monochromatic color schemes to produce a sleek space. The term "modern" in the phrase urban modern refers to an aesthetic that was popularized by Le Corbusier and other architects during the early twentieth century. Although often mistaken as being synonymous with contemporary (which is predominantly displayed in designs from 1950 onwards) "modern" actually refers to anything from 1920 onwards. Aesthetically speaking, this type of design incorporates a minimalistic perspective applied in many different ways. For example using modular furniture or leaving only one fabric on each wall. Most importantly, it is about creating a sense of spaciousness at any cost.

The main aspects of urban modern interior design are to create spaces that are welcoming, comfortable and utilize the assets of your home by displaying them with purposeful intent. What's important about it is the general feel you get when being in a room with furniture constructed in this fashion. If you were to think of some adjectives for what a well executed space may be like, "serene," "cozy" or "comfortable" might come to mind. Urban Modern is unapologetically romantic but doesn't shy away from discernible traces of man-made objects such as appliances and electronics mixed within its space.

Urban modern design is a recent aesthetic movement that draws heavily from simple architectural principles and Dutch style spaces. The interior design style modernizes the primitive with colors, textures, embellishments, and furniture choices to create a fresh look. Pared-down furnishings in a gray or charcoal color are common for this type of space. An example would be leather coasters on cast iron stands beside an open-faced TV stand with drawers for remote control storage below. These rooms sometimes include floor to ceiling windows that offer views outside into the world beyond while making it look like you're looking out onto something they've designed themselves.

In this design, rooms are often designed to flow and make the most of their square footage. Spaces are open, minimalistic and subdivided into multipurpose rooms that can be turned into sleep, play and work zones with desks for office work at one end or even a home office do-it-yourself desk on wheels that is built in to create an extra bedroom by simply pulling it out from the adjacent walls as needed. Muted earth tones are popular throughout the living space. The kitchen cabinets, flooring, and furniture often have light browns or dark browns which give softness to cooler hues like blues or red-based colors mixed with white.
