Depends on the size. A coffee table, sofa, love seat, 2-4 chairs and a TV. Not more than that because your furniture will turn into clutter before long. If you have more space feel free to throw in an extra chair or two for sitting at the end of a meal or when people are getting ready to leave so they can grab their purse/coat/jacket without feeling like they're passing through traffic in the house. Wall art (plenty of it) is good too - I'd recommend something abstract but you can get fancy if you want - just make sure there's enough "room" on that wall for all the photos you'll be saving once your kids graduate high school.

Most would say a sofa, love seat, chairs, coffee table and end tables. If space is an issue on the floor then section rugs work well. Sometimes the addition of an entertainment center in one corner can also make for better viewing of televisions or video games. Design styles range from traditional to modern with elements such as cabinetry and other nooks built into walls, artwork on the wall which may include paintings, photos or family photos framed in interesting ways like vintage picture frames as well as urns and containers filled with indoor plants scattered throughout the room make for a cozy atmosphere. Focal points are created by using different colors along walls to draw your eye through the room such that you never become bored.

There are many ways to go about the layout of a living room, but here are some on a more basic level. For one thing, furniture should typically come to about a 2-3 foot clearance from any adjacent wall in order for people to be able to walk around without bumping into pieces of furniture.
The focal point of the room also depends on preference - it could be anything really, such as an elaborate fireplace or beautiful window view. This is where most people would place their television and usually includes seating arrangements like benches, sofas or chairs that can be arranged with blankets and throws for fall and winter months. In terms of decorating techniques, try incorporating plants (or artificial ones), rugs, curtains..

In general, a living room will have furniture that is all on the same level, as opposed to a den, which typically has lower couches and tables and a media console for televisions or stereos below them. A living room will also usually have one or more sofas (single seats) and armchairs/apartments; sometimes they are in sections like in an opera house with stalls (higher seats) and balconies (lower seats). It's important to note that contemporary pieces should be chosen according to the size of your room.

The living room is a conventional location for many of the family's activities. It may be used as a separate guest area or game room, or for entertaining guests and watching TV. This domestication requires furniture that performs multiple functions in one piece. The sofa should have sufficient surface space to accommodate dining, while side and armrests provide comfortable places to relax on either end. A coffee table can double as an eating surface when necessary and frequently hosts storage pieces like books and magazines during other activity times. Lounge chairs with ottoman seats are perfect furnishings that offer comfortable rest while also being able to pull up tables for added seating or serving use when in need of extra items during small parties or dinner gatherings with friends.

It depends. What kind of people live there? How is it decorated?
There are a number of questions to ask yourself when you want to know what furniture should be in a living room. The style and colors of the furniture will depend on how you decorate your living space as well as the types of people that live in the home, including whether or not children or pets are part of it. In general, we would recommend having sofa furniture so that guests have somewhere to eat, such as adding a dining set with upholstered chairs plus coffee table nearby for beverages and snacks. For entertainment purposes, add TV and entertainment center if desired.
