Yes, it is indeed easy to learn and take an interest in. Sketchup as a programming language is not too difficult, and there are many beginner-friendly tutorials available on the Internet that can help you get started with the software.
The key to learning sketchup well for any person is interest. Interest helps you stay engaged while going through beginner tutorials or watching youtube videos, but more importantly it's what drives your problem solving skills - those that find the solutions that work for you best. Remember, if something isn't working one way (e.g., following a tutorial) then try another approach (e.g., watching youtube videos).

SketchUp is the perfect 3D modeling tool for everything from Architectural Design to Historical Restoration, and most home projects in between. It's so easy to learn, even a 5th grader can do it.
SketchUp provides flat perspectives that are conducive to learning because they require minimal understanding of three dimensional geometry. You can use these tools without any experience or prior knowledge of more advanced software such as AutoCAD - which is tricky for beginners and daunting for many experienced architects halfway through their careers to learn too!

Learning sketchup is more than easy because it allows you to learn at your own pace without making a mistake with the mouse and have your design deleted all over again. You can get up, walk around, watch TV or do just about anything while this simple software does its job.
SketchUp is an easy-to-learn 3D computer application for drawing still images of buildings from various angles and features like inside views of walls being cut away or shown in cross section, realistic textures and effects like shadows that react to the time of day.

There are many things I love about SketchUp such as it is FREE to download and you can create 3D designs, export them in 2 formats (3ds or dxf) and import into Solidworks. It's easy to use (that's for sure), and best of all - it doesn't have all the complicated tools that are available with full CAD software like SolidWorks.

Sketchup is both easy and complex at the same time. It's easy because even kids can use it, but you'll need to invest patience if you want to use it professionally!
Many people find it easier to learn sketchup as a 3D modeling software than other programs that require coding. You're already familiar with objects in your world made of points (paper is flat), lines (a hand drawn map) or surfaces (2d, like paper). That's what sketchups models are too. You just need to understand three different kinds of "surface" geometry: Points-and-lines; Lines-only; Surfaces only.
