Yes, it is quite easy and the most popular project on the internet for SketchUp is building a three-tiered wedding cake.
Sketchup is an application that works by placing 2D shapes onto a 3D model of a scene. With minimal input on your part, like using simple mouse commands, sketchup can create complex projects with limitless possibilities. Sketchup was originally built as a CAD software program for architects who needed to make scale drawings of their creations at work. This made it great for hobbyists who wanted to draft up their own designs without having to invest in expensive drafting tools or hiring someone else just this one task can do so themselves with SketchUp and some patience!

SketchUp is a CAD (computer aided drafting) application that is widely used for sketching, modeling and illustrating architectural layouts as well as product design, landscape design, solar panel installation, and other tasks related to interior or exterior design. It's worth noting that SketchUp permits collaboration on projects both domestically and over the Internet through cloud storage.
It's typically divided into days of training which can be completed at your own pace. There are courses available online with relative ease and there are in-person courses available if you live near an instructor for instruction.

The learning curve for SketchUp is about average. It's not as easy to learn as some other programs, but it doesn't take more than a few hours of tutorial videos or reading on the wiki to get started.
It's important if you're going the tutorials route that you stick with it and don't give up. Those are there so that people can work through them at their own pace, which might be slower for those with less computer skills than others. Starting out too fast only renders the tutorials unhelpful! But in general yes, it's an easy program to pick up (though not as simple as Google Maps).
