Sketchup is an easy-to-learn 3D modeling tool for those who may not be familiar with other 3D tools. The Sketchup interface is clear and concise, which means its easier to learn and use than some of the more robust applications out there. It's also used extensively in architecture, urban design, mining and construction. So if you do any of these things professionally or as a hobby, Sketchup can be worth your time investment. If you want to get started with absolutely no experience at all--this will always be a difficult decision to make due to the amount of training required in order to become proficient but it could easily be worth looking into!

SketchUp makes it possible to create detailed 3-D models of your creations and send them to others, so it's not simply a drafting program.
SketchUp is designed with the engineer in mind. It helps you quickly model ideas, include accurately scaled measurements, generate blueprints for manufacturing or construction purposes, and has an extensive online library of user communities that can answer questions when you get stumped. The result is that the time needed to handcraft designs on paper or in programs like AutoCAD are mitigated almost entirely.

Sketchup is a 3D software program for modeling, designing, and presenting architecture. It can be used to create illustrations or plans of architectural designs but has limitations in detailing the most minute details. This software is great for first time users who have no other experience with graphics programs.

Sketchup is a software I often use for doing design work. It enables me to create 3D models of my various projects, and it's easy enough that any beginner can get started without much trouble.
I have no problem sketching out scenes in Google SketchUp with a keyboard and mouse on my Windows or Mac computer, but I find myself more often wanting to explore the 3D world using a virtual reality headset like Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. And since there are many VR experiences available today for just about every type of app imaginable, becoming familiar with sketching out scenes has become a crucial skill when testing an app idea in VR exploration simulations made possible by Cosmos Lander.
