Require more space for adequate storage of equipment and supplies. The layout of kitchen's island is a crucial factor in the performance of cooking, preparation, cleanup process. It needs to be flexible and modular design; allowing easy completion of cooking tasks as well an efficient way to prepare for catering services.
A simple but attractive design incorporating fresh colors can work wonders to create an inviting place to cook good food.
Agenda-driven planning approach helps in eliminating clutter which has not been used in recent time; including pots, pans, bowls or utensils which are not currently needed. This will help clear up extra space and give you easier access at times when you actually need it most like Thanksgiving dinner preparations.

The kitchen's design should be a reflection of the way you would like to cook. Space and functionality are an important factor, but what ARE you going to do in that space? In other words, the layout should make good practical sense for how you use your kitchen on a daily basis. Some things to consider-
*Customize the room based on how YOU cook: More counter space, or more storage areas?
*It's nice to think about how often guests come over and see if they have enough seating area for dinner parties.

    - Consider the use of natural light in determining how to lay out your kitchen. For best results, locate a window near one end of the room with a wall on that end. This will provide optimum lighting for cooking as well as general illumination when used primarily for dining or other purposes.

    - If you are stretching space between windows and/or do not have access to natural light, choose fluorescent lights and obtain them from commercial electrical supply stores - they provide excellent quality lights at low prices. Best way is to purchase fluorescent tubes which come in different colors (warm white being recommended.) They are labeled "direct glare" so there is no need for additional fixtures usually required by harsh utility style bulbs.

In kitchens, the most important priority to keep in mind is kitchen traffic. In order to keep things as organized and efficient as possible, make sure you take into account people will be cooking, washing dishes, preparing meals and sitting-down for dinner at different times of the day. To start planning your layout; first make a plan sketch drawn up to scale with paper or software (based on how large your kitchen is) so that you can see what's being excluded from the area by other furniture pieces and appliances. For example - Is there enough space for maneuvering between two major appliances like an oven/microwave? Can someone actually reach all items needed for cooking when working at a counter set against an island cutting board?

Make sure that your kitchen has a room for the stove and oven. These should be in the center of the kitchen-especially if you are left-handed-so they don't always get in your way. Try to arrange the countertops so you can work on one while not bothering other tasks going on at another one, and make sure there is enough cabinet space for tools, appliances, and food storage purposes. You may find it helpful to consult with an experienced designer or contractor who knows about these things well before making any decisions on budgeting or proper layout.
