There are many factors to consider when choosing the best color for your furniture, but the most important is that it fits the overall decor of your room and matches other things in your room.
Light colors will give a very different feel that darker colors, so I recommend using a light color in rooms that need cheerful and brightening up. Rooms with lower light levels can be dealt with by using dark colors like brownish reds or purples to counterbalance the effect of lower light on vision. If you have hardwood floors, lighter colors might show more dirt or stains than darker woods might show.

The key is to find a theme for your rooms, and then search for suggestions on sites like www.pinterest.com or www.hgtv.com if you need help deciding what that theme might be in your room. Given the room itself, some colors may work better than others, but again it's important to choose a color scheme based on the style of furniture you already have in the room - just because blue armchairs are an attractive option doesn't mean that they're compatible with warm wood tones if we're talking about a large rustic farmhouse table, let's say.

Choosing the right color for furniture can be difficult if you are looking to make a dramatic impact with your new space. When it comes to deciding on paint colors, thinking about the imperfections in wood, like checks in wood or knots in wood might help. If you have some of these blemishes, then dark colors may cover them up better than lighter colors and so a dark color might be ideal for this type of surface.

There's no one perfect answer to this question, but there are some guidelines. First of all, you have many different styles of furniture that require different colors. You generally want light colors in the bedroom and dark shades for a living room or office. Colors can evoke psychological feelings like calmness for reading rooms or an open feeling in kitchen space. But again, one general rule is to have your walls (which act as your background) match the color of the furniture. So instead of using white paint on my walls and red velvet curtains with matching red bedspread I now get more from blacks and maroons because they go better with my mahogany wood furniture pieces.

A major factor in choosing furniture color is matching it with the rest of your décor. For instance, you might have a red oriental rug or bedspread and want to decorate the room with lighter colors such as beige, white, or light green furniture that will not overpower other colors; alternatively, if you have a daybed in contemporary style with clear oak legs and a chrome headboard along with a muted gray-green fabric on the upholstery which would suit darker hued pieces such as mahogany brown, navy blue, red brick checkerboard (traditional English country), grey shearling (modern Scandinavian) or sage green.
