Interior designers are creative, resourceful people who are able to use space in houses and buildings to make them look more attractive and functional. Often, they have an esthetician’s eye for color and design and a good sense of proportion. They must be able to work with clients and contractors to get the results that the clients want while staying within their budgets.
Most interior designers start out by working in related fields such as architecture or homebuilding. Others may start out as interior decorators, which is a closely related field. Many college art programs offer courses in interior design, and some interior designers earn their degrees in fine arts or architecture before entering the field. There are also many two-year technical programs offered by community colleges.

I never really set out to become an interior designer – it just kind of happened! I have always been interested in design and decoration, and I used to spend hours poring over home decor magazines. After graduation, I got a job working for a small furniture store, and that sort of sealed the deal. I loved helping customers find just the right piece of furniture or accessory for their home, and I quickly developed a reputation for having a good eye for design. From there, it was sort of a natural progression into becoming an interior designer.
Nowadays, as an interior designer, I still draw a lot of inspiration from those glossy home decor magazines. But my work is much more than just picking out pretty things.

I became an interior designer because I have always loved designing and decorating spaces. Growing up, I would often rearrange my bedroom furniture or redesign my family's living room. I would also spend hours looking through magazines and catalogs, imagining what it would be like to live in the beautiful homes featured therein. When it came time to choose a college major, interior design was the obvious choice for me.
I completed my undergraduate degree in interior design and then went on to complete a Master's degree in the field. during which time I gained experience working in both residential and commercial design. After graduation, I started my own interior design business and have never looked back!

Design is truly my passion, and I feel so lucky that I get to pursue it every day. Every project is different, which keeps things interesting, and I love working with clients to help them create their dream spaces. Whether it’s finding the perfect piece of furniture or coming up with a new layout for a room, there’s nothing I love more than seeing a project come together beautifully.
