The short answer is no, the furniture in your living room does not need to match. There are a few factors that can sway this opinion here and they will depend on what look you're going for. For example, if you want furniture that looks like it was donated or picked up off the side of the road (wouldn't everyone have someone's old sofa sitting in their living rooms?), then there's no problem with mismatched furniture. If on the other hand you want a more modern, minimalist look in which every piece of furniture matches seamlessly because they're all from one of those high end catalogs full of furnishings it doesn't get any better than IKEA for this type of style.

It should depend on the décor and what you're looking to accomplish in your living room. For example, if you want a more formal atmosphere then it would make sense for all furniture pieces to match. Conversely, if you wanted a more casual home feel then it wouldn't necessarily need to be the case that all of your furniture matches - just have something complimentary happening instead.

Of course, sometimes an eclectic mix of styles can work well in a living room. It's all about whatever style you're going for and whether or not the pieces of furniture complement one another. For instance, if you want your living room to look like a rustic hunting cabin with accents of metallic hardware, then this is probably not a good look. If you prefer your living room to be elegant with sleek lines as shown below then metal furniture may be just what you need!

Yes. This is an old, I mean classic decorating rule and it's more than just about giving off the illusion of everything being cohesive or matching. Furniture living room sets are meant to be "in conversation" with one another, so you want your coffee table and chairs to compliment each other in terms of style, color and shape.
Proper space planning by someone who knows what they're doing can ensure that all the conversations happen in harmony. It has the added benefit of creating a specific mood or atmosphere that follows throughout all parts of the room - there's no confusion about which colors go where when they're all working in conjunction with one theme! So prepare both mentally and physically for this undertaking because furniture is important!

It's often a good idea to have the colors of furniture match when living in a room. However, this is just one possible way to make a room look attractive. Doors and curtains are often more important than fabric or paint color for determining how many individuals in the family get along with the decorating scheme. Furniture type is also very important, as using two different types can have an unpleasing aesthetic effect on the eyes. Be careful not to over do it when it comes to accessories such as lamps and pottery - these are best examples of elements that will pull an entire design together and even out any differences between furniture choices.

The answer to this question is not as simple as you might think. It all depends on the size of your living room and the space you have available for each piece of furniture
If there are enough spaces, yes, go ahead and put matching furniture in your living room! On the other hand, if you're limited on space or don't want to allocate one entire corner for a single chair or table, then it isn't always necessary for every piece of furniture (whether it be chairs, tables etc) to match.
