There are a lot of factors that go into making a front yard look nice, which is why there's no one-size-fits-all solution.
The first thing to ask yourself is "What about my house and yard would make people want to stop and take a closer look?" Are you close to the street? Is there something unique about your location, like bird feeders on the pole in front of the house or an old tree with interesting twisting branches? An attractive fence or entryway might open up more views inside your property as well. If you have some level of privacy from neighbors, it can be easier to imagine what plants will work for your space.

How about taking a look at the front yard landscape ideas for inspiration to help make your front yard look nice. Sometimes it's as simple as adding a potted plant, tree, or shrub to pull together an area that needs extra attention. Of course, sometimes one wants to take things up a notch and really give their asphalt-covered concrete jungle some personality. Here are some helpful guides:

If you have the means for a full yard remodel, I would recommend starting over from scratch to make it look nice overall. Otherwise there are some simple measures that can be taken to spruce up any front yard, in whichever level of disrepair it is now. There are a number of basic steps for making your front yard appear beautiful to passersby.
-Place approved measure (such as low fences) around your home so that people cannot walk through or loiter near your doorsteps and windows. Yes, walls cost money but if someone does get close enough they will see more than you want them to and they will feel less inclined to 'fall in love with the place'.

A front yard can look good for many reasons, often because it reflects the personality of the persons who lives there. I recommend starting with a detailed view of what they want their yard to do (e.g., put on a nice party), this will help you establish a sense of which plants and ornaments are appropriate and where to put them. For example, these things might be gardenias, outdoor lighting (e.g., spotlights or string lights), patio furniture outdoors, solar-powered lamps that light up when the sun goes down, indoor/outdoor sofas or chaise lounge chairs that convert into beds for guests... The list is endless!
