A degree can help, but it's not required. It is possible to be an interior designer without a college degree or formal training. However, it is never a good idea to go DIY on your home without any training at all. There are plenty of websites and blogs devoted to home decorating for beginners and getting started with design. Just make sure you're being cautious when following instructions from those sources. When hiring an Interior Designer though, make sure that they have more experience than you because they know what needs to be done in order to complete the project efficiently and effectively without going over budget or running too far behind schedule.

Not necessarily. Anything that is decorative in nature can be considered "home decorating", so the only real prerequisite is a willingness and interest in home decoration, if any formal education is desired. If you are an interior designer, yes. But not to be a home decorator. Interior designers hold degrees in design and may specialize in different types of design like residential or commercial work. Home decorators just need practical skills which can be acquired through formal education, apprenticeship, or on-the-job training.

Decorating skills can be self-taught, but it's always best to have a degree and some experience in the field. Interior designers are the professionals of home design who often create an entire home plan from scratch. They analyze possible layouts and make recommendations on materials, colors, furniture placement, and space utilization. A common misconception is that a decorator does just the superficial things like couches or walls or paint colors when in reality an amazing decorator rebuilds a room entirely to compliment your lifestyle so that you're living what you love every day in your home! What separates interior designers from mere decorators are their creativity and knowledge.

A degree is not necessary, although many people benefit from studying and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in interior design or home decoration. A career as an interior designer offers many professional opportunities for the right person. Interior designers can create beautiful spaces for living spaces, work spaces, children’s rooms, bathrooms, kitchens and living areas. The ability to transform any room into a cohesive space is one of the biggest draws to working with an interior decorator who understands how style choices affect relationships between habitability and attractiveness of your space. An experienced professional can help you make wise decisions about layout, color schemes and furniture placement that will improve the livability of your home while simultaneously enhancing its beauty.

It depends on the company and position you're applying for but in general, it's not required. Studying interior design is often useful because it teaches you about environmental psychology and color theory, which will help when developing a space that is aesthetically pleasing. No degree can guarantee job success though, so one must work hard at designing great concepts and portfolios to show their true worth as an aspiring interior decorator.
