In order to become a "landscape designer" in India, you will want to find a program that also has an interior design curriculum. Being great at designing solely the exterior of buildings is not enough for success within the Indian market. You'll need to know how to create beautiful interiors as well; it doesn't matter if you design office buildings or luxury homes. Know this, and learn something about furniture design as well.

India does not have any recognised degree courses or professional licences, like in America and Europe. The most common way to get your start is to work with a landscaping company and learn the ropes working alongside other experienced landscape designers. This would be akin to becoming an interior designer by getting a job designing interiors. You would need formal training for that particular discipline before you could work independently as such but by having three-to-five years of experience in another related profession, you can set up yourself as independent designer at the age 21 or so without having gone through any particular course curriculum beforehand.

You can take up post graduate courses in Interior Design. The course is a 6 semester, Masters-level program that delves into scope and form of interior spaces. It would focus on aspects of design involving texture, fabrics, furnishings and shades selections while understanding the principles of color theory relevant to textiles as well as what environment does to colors. A study abroad opportunity offers the chance for students to have an immersive experience in foreign cultures through exploration and analysis, broadening one's perspective about lifestyles tailored to specific regions or customs. Studying abroad helps people grow not only professionally but also personally and emotionally too.

There is no academy or institutional training for Landscape Design in India. However, one can enroll for an Interior Design course and take up Garden Design as a minor subject, since Landscape Planning is always involved with the creation of residential gardens. Besides this, one can also enroll for a diploma course in Gardening or Botany which entails gardening skills but not landscaping skills exclusively. There are many online courses available which cover all aspects of landscape design including garden planning and rendering techniques ike CAD drawing etc., so that you can start from the comfort of your home without putting much financial strain or any burdensome schedule on yourself.
