Answer : Most landscape designer jobs don't actually require a degree, they simply require some experience in the design field and the talent necessary to design landscapes. The exception to this rule is if you are applying for a job in corporate landscaping or commercial/retail landscaping where special skills and training that are beyond what most individuals may have access to need to be proven.
Most state licensing boards (or equivalents) have landscape designer on their list of professions requiring licensure. However, each board (or equivalent) will have its own set of guidelines for who must be licensed, so any questions concerning licensure can best be answered by contacting your board or equivalent directly and asking about standards for licensure.
