The second part consists of 8 modules where students will put theory into practice with different project that tie in the variety of topics covered previously. This program is planned to encompass subjects that complement each other and offer the opportunity to delve deeper into uncommon, but important topics such as rural kitchens or large-scale industrial kitchens.

The Kitchen Interior Design course begins with an in-depth exploration of the history and evolution of kitchens and how and why they evolved to what they are today. From medieval cooking spaces to midcentury modern kitchens to futuristic smart kitchens, each type of design will help comprehend what people look for in their kitchen depending on their social, cultural, and geographical context. Observing different kitchen models will also broaden organizational ideas and will help think of new ways to create workspace, storage space, and room for circulation. After gaining an understanding of the basics, students will learn how to interview clients and get to know their habits and style and build a mood board based on that information. Visualization techniques will be discussed to ensure clear communication of ideas between the designer and the client as well as other people involved such as contractors, carpenters, etc. The following topics are focused on materials, color, floor plans, and details. These stages of the design processes go hand in hand with costs and budgeting which we will also discuss in module 11. To round off the theoretical part of the course, we will be discussing sustainable kitchens, remodeling projects, and rural, tiny, and industrial kitchens. These topics are essential for the growing market in kitchen design around the world and will also be a part of the practical projects during the last 8 modules.

Using SketchUp, students enrolled in this course will dedicate the last 8 modules to designing a practical project. We will propose some projects but you can also choose your project by yourself. Finally, you will conclude the 72-hour kitchen design course, equipped with the knowledge and experience to face an assortment of different situations, styles and contexts in the world of kitchen design.
