Course syllabus:

Duration: 4 hours

In this module, participants will be welcomed to the course and provided with an overview emphasizing the significance of design principles in interior design. The module will delve into the fundamental principles such as balance, contrast, harmony, rhythm, and scale and proportion. Through the analysis of images depicting interior spaces, participants will engage in identifying the application of these principles, followed by group discussions. A Q&A session and a homework assignment tasking participants to prepare a one-page summary on the application of two design principles in a chosen interior space will be conducted. Subsequently, the module will review the homework and introduce the concept of space planning, highlighting its importance in interior design through discussions on zoning, circulation patterns, and furniture arrangement. Participants will then engage in sketching a basic floor plan for a given scenario, such as a studio apartment, focusing on zoning and circulation. The session will conclude with the sharing of sketches, group feedback, and further discussion to solidify understanding.

In this module, participants will start with a recap of space planning and an introduction to the design process, emphasizing its importance. The session will progress with an overview of the various stages of the design process, including brief, research, concept development, design development, documentation, and implementation. Through group activities, students will outline a basic design process tailored for redesigning a small coffee shop, followed by presentations and discussions on different approaches. The module will then review the design process and introduce concept development, exploring techniques such as mood boards, concept statements, and selecting a design style. Participants will create mood boards, either physical or digital, for the coffee shop project initiated in the previous session. Subsequently, presentations of the mood boards will facilitate discussions on how each conveys the intended concept and style, allowing for deeper insights and understanding.

In this module, participants will begin with a brief overview of various interior design styles followed by a detailed exploration of popular styles such as Modern, Contemporary, Traditional, and Minimalist. Through discussions and examples, students will gain insight into the characteristics and elements that define each style. Subsequently, they will select a preferred style and embark on creating a basic design scheme for a room, integrating considerations like color palette, materials, and furniture types. The session will then transition with a recap of the design styles and an introduction to the workshop phase. Participants will apply their chosen style to a detailed room design, working on a more comprehensive plan that encompasses layout and key pieces, allowing for hands-on application and deeper understanding of the design process.

In this module, participants will delve into the significance of materials and finishes in interior design, understanding their impact on the overall aesthetic and functionality of spaces. A comprehensive lecture will provide an overview of common materials and finishes used in interior design, including flooring, wall coverings, and upholstery, offering insights into their properties and applications. An engaging activity will challenge participants to engage in material selection for a hypothetical coffee shop project, considering aesthetics, functionality, and cost-effectiveness. The module will conclude with a wrap-up discussion focusing on the choices made during the activity and the importance of sustainability considerations in material selection. In subsequent discussions, the integration of materials into design will be emphasized, with a review of materials and finishes and strategies for their cohesive integration explored. Participants will engage in an activity creating sample boards for room designs, incorporating materials, finishes, and color palettes, followed by presentations and feedback sessions emphasizing the sensory and emotional impact of material choices, fostering deeper understanding and refinement of design skills.

The Interior Design Fundamentals consists of 8 lectures (1 6 hours). Each lecture is with duration 2 hours. Classes are two times a week. The duration of the course is 4 weeks.

If you want to enrol in the Interior Design Fundamentals course, you need to register in order to create an account at our website. Log in to your account and go to the course page. Click the button "Enrol now" and follow the steps. Do not miss your chance! It is free of charge!

All students must have completed secondary education. Fluent English and basic computer skills are must.

During the training, theoretical knowledge is introduced with the help of interactive methods and presentations, such as role-playing games, videos and reports, interactive presentations. The practical part of the training is studied by the method of "learning by doing", and each student should perform a number of practical tasks for the exercise of theoretical training. At the end of the training, each student realizes a complete project, covering everything learned during the course.

The assessment of students is carried out through knowledge control questionnaires (QCM), tests, reports and practical tasks. At the end of the course students can sit online test which is paid. The test consists of multiple correct/wrong answers. You must have a minimum of 50% correct answers in order to pass the test. All students that pass the test successfully will receive a certificate from Home Design Institute.

The last deadline in which you can join the course is 15 days before its start.

At the beginning of each training, the lecturer gets acquainted with each student and specifies with him the purpose of training and his knowledge in the field. The lecturer is obliged to adapt the learning process to each individual case, according to the level of knowledge of each student, and at the end of the training each student creates an individual project according to their needs and desired direction for professional development.

After registering for a specific training, you will have access to our online training platform. Through it you will have access to the training schedule, as well as the link for the virtual classroom for each session, the records of its holding and additional training materials. You will have access to these materials and recordings for the period of training and up to 4 months after it, so we recommend that you download all materials and videos so that you have unlimited access to them.
